Background
Our founder and Director, Philip
Tory, studied Physics, Electronics, Control Engineering
and Business Studies at five universities, and has
worked in a variety of industries.
His career began in electronic engineering, designing
new systems and taking them from concept through
to development, trials, production and quality control.
He gained significant experience on the design team
for the Concorde flight computers; on fly-by-wire
systems for military aircraft; in medical electronics;
on industrial electronic / electro-mechanical systems
and equipment. He also ran a drawing office for
some years.
A career change took him into Sales, selling a variety
of electro-mechanical systems and equipment to both
the public and private sector. In the 1990s he was
selling computer systems to Local Authorities. His
role included trouble-shooting, training of Sales
and Help Desk personnel, and technical author for
Manuals, online Help Guides, upgrade notes, technical
proposals and other corporate documentation.
In the late 1990s, before starting his own Technical
Author business, he was Software Product and QA
Manager responsible for a whole range of IT solutions
involving different technologies. Throughout this
time, he was technical author for all documentation
in the form of Installation Manuals, User Guides,
Training Manuals, System Administrator Guides, Software
Upgrade Notes and online Help Guides.
In February 2000, he started his own technical author
company. Although most work is done for the UK market,
he has provided documentation for companies in Australia,
Italy, Holland, and the USA. He has also conducted
Training Courses across the UK and in Ireland, Switzerland,
France, India and the USA.
