and powerful planning techniques to identify what
should and should not be in a document.
Research: how to gather the material you
will need; interviewing; subject matter experts.
Structure: structure the content; logical
sequence; table of contents; appendix; index.
Plain English: identify the characteristics
of the "Plain English" writing style; how to apply
it to all documentation and make it user-friendly.
Target the reader: how to identify and include
different target reader groups when you write.
Clarity: using the correct words to explain
something; eliminate complicated waffle; using bullet
points and numbered lists; handling jargon and acronyms.
Brevity: avoid duplication, verbosity, redundant
words and phrases.
Layout and appearance: use of white space;
colour; images and diagrams.
