RoboHelp
download - customising the appearance
I have had many people ask for an easy download
of RoboHelp Skins, so here they are, 54 WebHelp
skins bundled into Zip files. Each skin file
itself contains many small files.
I have included 37 small screen shots of some
of the WebHelp skins - this is not a complete set.
You can quickly preview what they would look like,
without having to load each skin to see.
(Sorry, I withdrew the FlashHelp skins. None of
my clients wanted them as they find the constantly
moving icons an irritating distraction, and also
they were concerned that they would be responsible
for installing and maintaining Flash on end-user
systems.)
Note! The zip files are about 1.4Mb each,
so I recommend a broadband connection! If
you use a modem, these downloads could take some
minutes...

1. We have
set this up free of charge to help RH users like
yourself.
2. Please
help me in return: Provide a clickable
link from your web site to this web site's home
page. It will help
other RoboHelp users to find the Skins files, and
it will help my business a little.
3. I have virus-scanned the zip
files, but I must make it clear that you use these
at your own risk. These are standard RH skin files; I have
used many of them myself, but it is up to you to
know how to use them: there are some
tips below.
I regret that I cannot provide support; however, 'Thank you' emails would be encouraging!
4. Enjoy!
The Skin files are split into TWO Zip files
of about 1.4 Mb each. For bandwidth reasons, I
keep these on a couple of other web sites.
1. RIGHT-CLICK
link to
download
SkinPack1.zip
then select Save Target
As...
(This contains screenshots and Skin set 1)
2. CLICK
link to
fetch SkinPack2
(on
another web site page, Skin Set 2).

How to use 'Skins'
Customising the look of user-friendly Online
Help is often important. Companies prefer not to
use the standard appearance - it looks rather bland.
For users who don’t want their Help Guides to look
like every other Help Guide, RoboHelp lets you easily
“skin” your online documentation in WebHelp or FlashHelp
formats. Simply put, skinning means replacing the
current look and feel of the Help Guide with a completely
different set of colours or graphics.

If you know how, you can make your own
that match your existing software application or
your website. Although the default skin looks acceptable,
for some people it still may look a bit too default.
If you don't know how, then you RoboHelp allows
you to import
that other users have created - provided you have
access to them in the first place!
You can see some examples on this page.

There used to be a Community page where users
offered their own designs free of charge to other
users. Great idea - and people enjoyed sharing their
designs. However, time has moved on and their availability
is almost non-existent.
Once upon a time...
OK, so how do you get these extra
for your RoboHelp projects, so that you can change
their appearance? The book says, go into the Project
folder, right click on
,
and select 'Import from the Web'. Hmmm...

Once upon a time, you could download
a number of WebHelp skins from the Help Community
website, and these were submitted by various RH
users, freely available to other RH users. You could
import
using the link in RoboHelp (Project
tab > Skins > right-click > Import from Web).
This used to take you to the online RoboHTML Skins
Gallery.

BUT ! - For a number
of years, Adobe and Macromedia seem to have forgotten
all their users worldwide, and killed the link:
"web page not found". So I have set this page up
for you.

The RH Help Guide says:
"You can customise your WebHelp
output so that it resembles your company's Web-based
or desktop application, so that you can deliver
a professional-looking product. The Help Guide tells
us that if you don't know how to design your own
RoboHelp
,
you can select one from the Gallery, changing the
colours, buttons, text, fonts, icons, and more.
Add colourful backgrounds and special images for
TOC icons and navigation buttons, insert your company's
logo, add custom buttons, and use other effects
that can update or improve your WebHelp system's
look.

There are a few pre-designed
available in the Skin Gallery for you to edit and
use in your project. Creating new
based on gallery designs is one way to do it - if
you have time to learn how. You can save the new
designs for use in other projects. When you create
a skin from a gallery skin, a copy of the gallery
skin is copied into your project with any customizations
you make (the gallery skin remains unchanged).
